Liverpool Sound City Festival

The Brightmoon blog is up and running again after a lengthy break and what better way to return than with the Liverpool Sound City Festival!

It’s less than two weeks to go before the start of the festival. I’ve been trawling through the itinerary on offer and surely this has got to be one of the best events in the Liverpool calendar.

The conference on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd of May is full of not-to-be-missed people. One highlight will be the appearance of legendary Rolling Stones’ orchestrator Andrew Loog Oldham. His latest book is titled “Stone Free” and MOJO magazine says, “This book is mandatory reading for anyone interested in the 1960s, pop management and the music industry then and now, all the more so because it’s suffused with love.” That’s got to be worth an hour of your time!

Musically a personal favourite will be the appearance of Ian Prowse and Amsterdam at the Cathedral on Saturday 4th May. Ian’s contribution to Liverpool music is incalculable – and that’s just his ability to keep other musicians on the relatively straight and narrow! He brings Celtic sensibility to rock and roll and has a catalogue of songs stretching back nearly 25 years. Don’t miss him!

So hats off to Dave Pichilingi, the festival director. There are many forces for good in both Liverpool and the music industry and Dave is definitely up there with the best. So, forget TV and a takeaway, get out and join in with Liverpool Sound City. The festival suffused with love.
