Getting the Picture

Yesterday was spent at the new LJMU Redmonds Building for the Getting the Picture conference about opportunities in local TV. LJMU’s Judith Jones had done a fantastic job bringing together speakers who were both interesting and entertaining. From Ed Hall, CEO of Comux UK to Lia Nici Executive Producer of Channel 7 and Lincolnshire Living we got an extensive look at the growing local tv sector.
There is a genuine opportunity to create something of real value with local tv and hats off to Bay TV who told us about their plans for the channel for Liverpool. Led by Chris Kerr and Chris Johnson Bay TV will aim to be broadcasting in the next 6 to 12 months with a variety of programmes reflecting the lives of people in the Greater Liverpool area. They already produce films for the online version of the channel at Chris Kerr has been at the Local TV wicket for many years and it’s a tribute to him and the Bay TV team that they now have a genuine chance to make Liverpool’s Channel a success.
The real challenge will be to make broadcast quality programmes and fill a schedule that will be hungry for original content. But with his extensive experience at Granada TV Chris Kerr is the man for the job!
